5 Napping Styles You Have To Try
If that midday slump hits you and you just need a nap, try one of my five favorite nap styles that will get you energized and thriving for your day. You don’t have to be a serial napper to try these out– we all need a good nap from time to time and taking the right kind really makes all the difference.
Why We Nap
Yes naps energize you, but studies show that taking naps can also boost your brain function, enhance creativity, and improve your critical thinking skills. The benefits don’t end there– naps can be a fantastic way to reduce stress and elevate your mood. So, if you woke up on the wrong side of the bed, try these nap styles:
“The Expresso” Espresso & Nap
Hands down, my number one nap. If you’re like me, you get caught up in over-saturating yourself with caffeine to keep productive and it still doesn’t work. A short power nap is the only thing missing from that equation.
All you have to do is take an espresso or drink a typical 8oz coffee, quickly! Then lay down for only 20 minutes– by the time you wake up, the caffeine will be pumping through your veins and your mind will be refreshed and ready to go. This nap is not for your daily routine but when you really need a recharge, this is the one.
For my hard working business professionals, I am recommending the 30 minute nap. Ooof, you didn’t block this one in your schedule? Face it, you’re overworked and exhausted– that’s how you got where you are after all, but it’s time to take care of yourself too. To stay sharp, try a mid-afternoon snooze on the couch, just don’t forget to set an alarm for that next meeting!
The Sheet Mask
Sorry belly sleepers, this one is for the delicate napper. For the perfect 15-20 minute nap where you will wake up refreshed and glowing, hit the sheets with a clean beauty sheet mask. It is the perfect formula as this power nap is the kickstarter for an energy refresh and radiant skin. Mask & relax!
Going out just doesn’t feel like it used to, at least getting the energy to stay out all night long. The Pregame is the perfect nap for those that are planning to see a late night (or even a sunrise). This nap should last 90 minutes, but be sure to do it with plenty of time to get your hair and makeup done after. Another critical step– set several alarms! Take a pregame nap for that little extra dancing stamina for an unforgettable night.
One of my favorite nap styles as it usually follows a good meal. In traditional Spanish fashion, the Siesta is taken in the early afternoon, often after lunchtime. Most stores & restaurants even close down during this period. Though the modern Spanish workforce does not always use Siesta time to sleep, there is a reason this energetic population stays awake longer than their European counterparts with this lovely period of rest.
