How To Stick To Your New Year’s Resolutions

Well it’s crazy to think that 2023 is already here and with the new year comes a ton of new goals, thoughts and plans for our lives. Though we all may feel ambitious and inspired as the new year approaches, once the magic of the holidays and new years wears off - it can be difficult to stick to and maintain those goals that were once made. I think my new year's resolution this is to actually stick to my chosen resolution and here is how I am going to do that:

1. Be Realistic

My first tip to myself and everyone else out there is to be realistic. I know when a new year comes around, we feel like we have to make a dramatic change in our life, especially if things didn’t go as planned the past year but you should be weary. Choosing a resolution that is unattainable or out of reach is going to make it that much harder to commit to and achieve. If you’re looking to lose weight in 2023, maybe your goal can start with losing 10 pounds in the year instead of losing 50! If you’re looking to reduce your processed sugar intake, don’t cut out sugar entirely at once. This will only result in intense cravings for it as time goes on. Try slowing reducing the amount of sweets and processed sugars you eat and also don’t be so hard on yourself if you cheat on your plan - that is completely okay!

2. Write Down A Plan

Tip number 2 is once you decide what your goals for 2023 are - write them down. This will not only be a good way to verbalize your thoughts and set them in stone, but it’s also good to have a reference to look back on at the end of the year. Personally, when I write something down I stick to it and I also like the idea of being able to see what I thought my year would look like once the year is over! Besides holding yourself accountable by writing your goals down, writing out a detailed plan on how you will achieve the goals is just as important. Once you know how you plan to achieve them, your resolutions will have the chance to be that much more successful.

3. Tell Your Friends & Family

Lastly, don’t keep your new year’s resolutions a secret! Tell your friends and family your goals for the new year and how you plan to achieve them. Your family and friends will also hold you accountable no matter what - so if you share your plans with them that’s one more person on your side to support you. Support plays a huge factor in your success, without support it’s hard to feel motivated to do something or feel like you are making the right decision. Lean on your friends and family for support this new year and have them continue to motivate you as the year goes on and you motivate them.

I guess we will see in a year if anyone sticks to their 2023 resolutions! But remember, just because there is a new year does not mean there need to be a new you. Do not let the pressure of 2023 affect you now. You are the path that’s meant for you and I can’t wait to see what this year has in store for all of us!
